Ratinator Multi-Catch Rat Trap

The media could not be loaded. I saw this trap on one of the chicken facebook groups that i follow and found the link for this in the comments. The post i found it on caught waaay more than i did for their post but i dont care because i finally caught something in a trap! I'M THRILLED SO HERE'S MY REVIEW! 🥳🥳🥳Ive been hearing these pests going about the undercarriage of my RV and have been being kept awake because i cant turn off my brain once i hear the skittering. Ive been finding nests in places like in my engine bay, generator compartment, and spare tire compartment, under my coop, ect. I dont have issues with rodents inside because i have cats but the cats only have inside and the catio i built them, so limited pest deterant there. (Also my family has one outdoor cat thats old and insists on being outside but still mouses so i cant poison, but i knew these rodents were too big for the old girl to catch)Glue traps sometimes worked but i figured that i must have had BIG and SMART ones remaining because they were triggering my Victor snap rat traps and either getting free or not getting caught. (They also weren't falling for other traps in my chicken coop so this is going in there next!)This trap recomends baiting it with the door stuck open for a little bit, to which i used a little bit of bent wire and i left the door a little loose, because i wanted to be sure the rats were fine with the door moving while they got used to the trap. I baited with wet cat food for the smell and appeal of it, splattering it on the edges and gate and left it for a few days. (I didnt mean to leave it for a few days but life happened and i was unwell enough i wasnt doing chores, but i could see the bait being messed with so i left it). I also made sure i barley touched the trap so that my scent wasnt on it much. (Besides the lil video i took when i got it because the pictures online make it a little hard to tell the shapes in the trap). Last night i baited with more wet cat food all over and took out the wire. To be honest, i forgot about checking the trap till well past noon but the little pests were still stuck within, something i worried about because the door just flops up and down from the weight of it, but the little tunnel keeps them from going straight back to the door. (Set on a flat surface to make sure the door works right). I took a video of the rats running around within but im only allowed to upload one vid per review apparently.It was sooooo easy to set up, the only thing id say to watch out for is to not clip the bait door over the handle you need to pick it up later with. I didnt realize i had done because it was dark when i rebaited the trap. (I could have opened the bait door to fix that without them escaping throughit because its enclosed but the critters were launching themselves around when i approached it so i opted not to, so that the entrance door didnt accidentally flop down)The tub that it comes with makes it easier to 'take care' of the pests with a deep 'bath' and the door to remove them worked well to take the tool grips i had and pulled them out. Make your life easier than i did and grab disposable gloves for this process before you start it. (Im not relocating a pest, esp not a smart one. I dont want it and so i dont want to drop it off somewhere to be someone elses problem, id hate if someone did that to me. They have caused me soooo much money in damages from wires to insulation and more.)When i recieved the trap i did notice and take pictures of some damage on one of the corners, like it had been dropped before being packaged, because the box was fine and so was the plastic tub it came within in the box. The damage did not effect usability, thankfully, since this wasnt cheap. Ill say it again, it wasnt cheap, BUT, it was WORTH IT.The size will limit small spaces i may want to use this in (like my generator bay or engine bay of my parked RV) but it will still fit easily under quite a few things like cars and cabinet edges, withing sheds and so on.Its also CHICKEN SAFE! I dont have to worry about triggering snap traps before letting my flock into their run or worry about my birds standing on it. And since im baiting with cat food i dont have to worry about if my birds eat the bait too. Or anything else for that matter, like you have to worry about with other poisons.If you've gotten this far into reading my review, thanks for your time and i hope this helps you decide how to get rid of your pest problem! We have a chicken coop, and rats were digging in and eating the food. I can't use poison because we have cats, dogs and lots of beautiful hawks. I have tried every type of trap with no success. I have already caught seven rats. I keep it open for a night and then close it up the next night. I always use rubber gloves to make sure my scent isn't on the trap. The dunk pan works well, however you need to make sure it is filled all the way to the brim.

I decided to try this trap because the regular snap traps were not catching anything…yet I could regularly hear that something was residing in my attic. I have since confirmed that what I am dealing with are roof rats. I have no idea how well it works for other critters.I made a minor modification to the trap, right off the bat…because the bait box didn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense for using loose food (which would fall through the holes and out the bottom). I found a shallow bowl that fit within the bait compartment would contain the food, but in doing so...did not allow the rats to actually reach the bait. To address this issue, I cut a hole in the side of the bait box to allow access to the bait from within the trap.The design concept of the trap otherwise seems reasonably sound and the trap looks to be well made. Unfortunately, the rats in my attic are a lot smarter than anticipated. I initially tried some dry dog food. As per the instructions, I wired the trap door open and spread some food near the entrance for a week before actually setting the trap … but a week later, I couldn’t tell that anything had even touched the bait.I then decided to install an infrared camera which is tied into my home network and records when it detects motion. The “rat cam” has been crucial to understanding what was going on. First off… I was shocked by how many rats were up there and by how wary they were of the trap. They also were not very interested in the dog food. Without a camera, I am sure I would have just kept relocating the trap, before figuring out that they were indeed traveling along routs near the trap, but they just were not interested in the bait. I re-baited the trap with squirrel food (a mixture of sun flower seeds and other grains), mixed with dried blueberries, and bacon bits. This mixture definitely got their attention. After a week, the rats seemed to be regularly feeding from the trap, so I unwired the door… only to discover that they would sit at the entrance as if politely waiting for the diner to open. Within a couple of days, none of the rats had entered the trap…but more surprisingly they were beginning to ignore the trap altogether. At the risk of teaching them how to escape, I even tried wiring the door half way open…but still nothing.I ended up wiring the door open again…allowing them to free feed for another 3 weeks, before re-baiting and setting the trap again. So…after a month…I had counted up to 10 rats at the trap at a single time…yet had caught zero rats.But…by this point, the vermin were much more comfortable with the trap…and I caught 8 rats in the 1st 24 hrs. I again wired the door open for a couple of days, and then set it again, to catch 2 more.However, the video reveals that I am only catching the younger rats. I have seen some that are much larger, that remain wary of the trap especially when set…but…at least for now, I did manage to significantly reduce the number of rats.Edit: I am updating this review and adding another star. I failed to mention a second modification that I made to the trap, because initially didn't believe it made any difference...but in the end, it did...but in an unanticipated way. The second modification was made because the 1st time that it was set, several rats would sit at the entrance and as soon as they would start to push to door down to enter, the cross bar which counter weights the door would come up and hit their tail, at which point it appeared they would startle and run. To address this problem, I cut the cross bar in the center and using 2 sets of pliers, I carefully bent the 2 ends so they were pointed up (do not try to do this without a good hold to prevent the counter weight from simply twisting, or it will break loose from the door). This modification did not seem to make any difference however with the rats.After the 1st month of getting the rats used to the trap, I managed to catch a total of 10 before they seemed to stop entering, so I wired the door open once again.A couple of nights later, I heard a loud shuffling noise in the attic. When I checked the rat cam, I was shocked to see what appeared to be Ratzilla half way in the trap. Since the door was wired open, I had no choice other than to patiently watch as the huge tail slowly slipped into the trap and I could see the reflection of eyes, as it worked its way around the bait compartment to face the camera. I then ran into the attic and was able to block the door before it could escaped. To my surprise, "Ratzilla" turned out to be a opossum. A couple of days later, I caught a second opossum. Reviewing the recordings on the rat cam, confirmed that both of the opossums had no trouble figuring out how to get into the trap...but because of their size, I don't think that they would have been able to depress the door, had the counter weight bar not been modified. My wife had very little faith when I purchased this product. She yelled at me "if this doesn't work, we are returning it!"...but my faith endured. I believed in it with all my being, and on the first night..the Trap God's honored my faith with 7 rat sacrifices.. every night since then, we as a family circle around the Trap God's construct and pray.. and every night.. we are blessed.It really does work.. enjoy!

These are absolutely amazing. We have been struggling with rats in our chicken coop and garage for months, and can't use poison because of our animals. We have caught more rats in the 2 days since we got the Ratinators than the last few months combined. Worth every penny!
